Dance Competition
By: Julie Wallace
The Hannan Dance Team won first place in a competition on April 23 at Warren High School in Vinson, Ohio. Mrs. Solomon, the Dance Team Coach, was extremely excited about the win. “Nothing has brought me a more rewarding moment with the dance team than watching them perform with confidence and their support for each other. We truly are a family!” When asked her thoughts on the year, a member of the team said, “I’ve made memories I won’t forget.”
Youth Expo
By: Cassidy Duffer
On April 21 and 22, Hannan’s SADD, RAZE, and FFA chapters participated in the annual Youth Expo held at the Point Pleasant Armory. Fourth through sixth grade students from Point Pleasant Intermediate, Roosevelt, Ashton, New Haven, Beale, and Leon Elementary came out to enjoy the event. The FFA chapter, advised by Mr. Douthit, brought animals out and had games for the kids to play. The SADD and RAZE chapters, advised by Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Thomas, taught kids about the dangers of drugs and about making good decisions.

Columbus, Ohio Beef Expo 2016 FFA Judging Competition
Mr. Douthit took 12 FFA members to Columbus, Ohio to participate in the annual beef cattle judging competition March 18-19. FFA members all over the state of West Virginia and Ohio attended this competition. There were six judging classes and two questions classes. Hannan’s FFA teams placed 22nd, 37th, and 40th overall. We all had an enjoyable time and learned so much not only about ourselves but also about FFA and our judging careers. We all left feeling successful and like winners.
WV Jackson’s Mill 2016 FFA Competition
Mr. Douthit took 10 FFA members (many of the same FFA members who attended the Columbus, Ohio trip) to Jackson’s Mill for their annual judging competition on April 8. The members who attended this competition worked long and hard and even stayed after school several days for cattle judging practices at Mr. and Mrs. Green’s farm. Hannan’s FFA teams placed 13th, 36th, and 91st overall. Hannan’s FFA members gave it their all and enjoyed a nice steak dinner after the competition was over to celebrate their hard work. At this competition, the attendees participated in 4 beef judging classes, two questions classes, an equipment identification class, and a meat identification class. Though the weather was chilly, we didn’t let it falter our dedication and determination to make the best of our time.

FFA Farm Review
By: Desire Sparks
After leaving Hannan High School around 7:30 am on September 23, Mr. Douthit took 40 FFA members to the 2015 Farm Science Review in London, Ohio. After a three hour drive, we finally arrived, excited and ready to go! Split into groups of at least three, we ventured around, looking for certain items on our scavenger hunt list, such as Soy Bean Products, Companies to get “selfies” or “usies” with, being able to identify different types of equipment, and so on. Walking around for around four to five hours, the students had an educational time. While walking around, we met several other FFA members from Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky. There were many booths there - too many to count! Many companies brought their equipment, new prototypes, and other items for our viewing pleasure, and some even showed how certain things worked. Rival companies competed to gain new customers. In addition to all the booths and equipment, there were game stations, such as water pollution demonstrations with moon sand, short story presentations, as well as food and jerky taste testing. Overall, we had a great time and an educational experience.

RAZEWe are RAZE. And our mission is clear. We’re putting everything we’ve got into tearing down the lies of Big Tobacco in West Virginia. Tobacco has taken over our state. And now is our time to take it back. We can be the generation of West Virginians that create a serious rebellion against big tobacco and make a real change. We do a lot of different activities throughout the school and community. The RAZE meeting will be held along with the SADD meeting, and you will need to register online to become a member.
Jr. Class Prom CommitteeThe Junior Class prom committee is in full swing this year. We have several fundraising events that will be taking place and we hope that the entire Junior Class will participate in them. The prom committee is a group of juniors who want a say in how and where the prom will be held. We ask that all juniors take part and make the 2016 prom the best ever.
